Complete metering systems for measuring fuel consumption in diesel motors
In times in which resources are becoming increasingly scarce, saving energy assumes increasing significance, in both economic and ecological terms. To enable us to save both energy and resources, we must firstly calculate consumption accurately. For this purpose, high-precision measuring instruments are required, which must also be able to cope with the frequently difficult operating conditions. Meister Strömungstechnik is now in a position to provide complete systems based on the OMG helical screw volumeter for measuring fuel consumption in diesel motors.
The screw-spindle design volumeters of the OMG range are highprecision measuring instruments which meet these requirements because of their measurement principle, their precision manufacture and their strength. The volumeters consist of two extremely precisely manufactured measurement spindles driven by flowing fuel. In this process, a precisely defined volume is recorded with each revolution. By counting the revolutions in a defined period, the volume flow over a wide flow and viscosity range can be measured with an accuracy of 0.1% of the measured value.
The smooth-running measurement spindles follow every movement of the liquid column, irrespective of the direction of flow. This is of particular significance, since, for example, fuel pump pistons force fluid pulsations to occur in low pressure systems, which may result in flow speeds varying with great frequency and, in unfavourable circumstances, in a reversal of the direction of flow.
By using two sensors per volumeter, it is possible to take this reversal of the direction of flow into account when analysing the consumption measurement. Bidirectional measurement, when the system is in forward or reverse mode, makes it possible to calculate the consumption highly accurately. At the same time, the volumeter's immunity to vibrations shows that accuracy and strength do not have to be mutually exclusive.
